Friends, I apologize that it’s been a week since we’ve last touched base. Work + training + life have all picked up at once, yielding an abundance of adventures but not a whole lot of time to write about them! Thanks for sticking with me even though the quieter times. I’d love to hear what you all have been up to in the interim!
As for training last week, it went quite well all told. In my aim of striving for progress rather than perfection, I did miss a swim and a bike but hit all the rest of my workouts just fine, thank you very much. This week is off to a great start; I got my swim in this morning as planned and felt good doing it!
This week is Assessment Week with TriDot, which means my overall training volume is reduced but the intensity is heightened. Let’s see how it all shakes out on the calendar.
Monday: This week kicked off with an hourlong ladder session in the pool, which went great if I do say so! Now that I have an actual Ironman on the books again, I feel it is time to start swimming. A novel approach, right?
Tuesday: Next up is an FTP test, which I always dread. There are several FTP tests to choose from but I like the 20-minute one on Zwift, so that’s what I’ll do tomorrow. Pray for me.
Wednesday: I’ve got an easy hourlong ride on Wednesday, which weather permitting I’ll do with the bike club.
Thursday: On Thursday I’ll hit the treadmill for a 5K time trial, which I’m looking quite forward to. Time to see if I can beat my best!
Friday: We finish up the workweek with a CSS test in the pool, where I’ll do a 400 and a 200 for time with a bit of splashing on either end. Since I haven’t been swimming consistently lately, I’m not expecting a miracle here, but if I can manage a somewhat respectable time I’ll be happy.
Saturday: The training plan calls for a 1:15 threshold and hold bike workout, but if the weather is good I’ll ride with the club.
Sunday: We finish up the week with 50 minutes of marathon repeats. Still not a long enough “long run” for my taste, but hopefully I’ll get back there soon!
Have a great week, friends!
