It’s assessment week time again! That moment every month when the workouts decline in time but increase substantially in effort. I have no idea what to expect but I’ll give it my best.

Before we get to this week, though, a look back at last. Everything went according to plan through Friday, but then stalled out over the weekend due to an uninvited migraine guest. Thus, I bade goodbye to my Saturday ride and then my Sunday long run, which y’all KNOW is my favorite workout of the week. I was so sad! I did move my Sunday long run to today (see below) and was happy to get it in, but still. It didn’t go according to plan. But neither, I suppose, does life.

Deep thoughts for a Monday! Let’s get to this week’s training plan.

Monday: I knocked out this morning’s 1:15 long run dark and early, rising at 5:30 to be at the gym shortly after 6. It felt great and after a weekend of headaches I was grateful for the movement!

Tuesday: FTP test time on the bike! The last one of these I did was when I had covid but didn’t know it was covid – I wonder how I’ll do this time around!

Wednesday: 5K time trial time! I’ve been running these on the treadmill of late and I think I’ll keep that up for consistency. In the spring, I’ll move to the track again.

Thursday: An hourlong easy ride on the bike. My dad and I plan to ride together, which is always great fun.

Friday: Now, Friday should bring a CSS test in the pool, but it’s been so long since I’ve been consistently swimming, I feel like I should let this ride for another month and do a regular swim workout instead. So with that I’ll probably do an hourlong Broken Ladders workout.

Saturday: A 1:15 threshold and hold workout on the bike followed by a 20-minute brick run! I have plans Saturday morning so this will have to be done in the afternoon.

Sunday: A 50-minute threshold repeat run is in the offing for Sunday. Not quite long run territory, but I’ll take it!

Have a great week, friends!
