Happy Snow Day, friends!

What? It’s not snowing where you are? Well, it surely has been here, more than we in Northern Virginia have seen in a couple of years. To be honest it’s lent an air of festivity to an already-truncated workweek, and I for one am thrilled.

Now, before we tackle this week’s training (which is already in progress), a look back at last week. There’s no beating around the bush: It didn’t go the way I thought it would. Our sweet gray kitty, Pliny, suddenly stopped eating, seemingly out of the blue, and after that things went downhill fast. Two vet visits and an ultrasound later and we had our diagnosis (after ruling out some very scary things) – pancreatitis! He’s now on the mend and back to eating like a horse. And I cannot begin to articulate how relieved I am at the outcome.

All this to say, last week’s training did not exactly transpire how I’d like. In fact, I give myself a solid C, and that is frankly grading on a curve! I got some key workouts in – my Saturday long bike and Sunday long run, and another bike ride midweek – but overall it was a bit of a bust in the training department. For a good cause – Pliny’s needs come first! – but there you have it.

So far, this week has been better. Let’s see what we’ve got!

Monday: We started the week with a bang with some 30-30s on the bike for an hour. It was the first hard bike workout I’d had since covid where my heart rate was perfectly normal for the effort sustained!

Tuesday: This morning was supposed to be a swim, but today’s snow day put a bit of a damper on that. I’m willing to let it go and then do a bit of doubling-up later on this week. I’ll probably miss one swim, but that’s OK all told.

Wednesday: Tomorrow morning will bring some hill repeats for 55 minutes. Given all the ice I’ll probably do this on the treadmill, which I really actually enjoy. Then in the evening I’ll hit the trainer with my bike club for an easy hourlong ride on Zwift.

Thursday: I am desperate to get back to Row House, so I’ll do prioritize that for Thursday with a Signature class in the morning. I do wish I could ride my bike to it as per normal, but with all the ice I will probably drive. Woe!

Friday: We’ll end the workweek with some Broken 150s in the pool. It will be my first time back in the pool in an age, so I really don’t want to miss it!

Saturday: I’ll ride on the trainer with my TriDot teammates on Saturday in a threshold and hold workout for 1:15. Following that, I’ll hit the road for a 20-minute brick run.

Sunday: We’ll end the week with 50 minutes of marathon repeats! I can’t think of a better way to finish things off.

Have a great week, friends!
