Friends, please excuse the radio silence on these pages for the past couple of weeks. LeeLee and I took to the air to visit several cities/countries in Europe, where my formal training was lacking but our walking mileage went WAY up! The trip was just what the doctor ordered for both mental enrichment and mental health. And I did get some running in; for instance, here I am on a morning jaunt in Montreux, Switzerland, posing with the statue of my beloved Freddie Mercury.

And in Munich, Germany, where we spent the latter half of our trip, we partook in a bike tour sponsored by Mike’s Bike Tours and had a wonderful time seeing the sights! Here is the scene from one of our stops:

So though training wasn’t the focus of this trip, we did get movement in every day. Lots of movement, in fact! I count this all as a win. 🙂
Now, what of the upcoming 70.3 I’m registered for, you might ask? Well, put simply, I’m not going to race it this year. I’m working on a longer explanation (exploration?) about this in an upcoming post this week, but right before our trip I came to the conclusion that I really had no interest in racing it this fall. I feel great about this decision – relieved, even. So I know it’s right for me.
But as for the training, I’ve decided to let TriDot keep hurtling me toward my would-be race date without making any changes to the schedule. I expect I’ll modify some of the workouts, but I’m curious to see what it’s going to put in front of me from day to day. Here’s the schedule for this week:
Monday: We kick off the week with a swim featuring Broken 200s for an hour. This will be the first time back in the pool since before our trip, so given my lack of racing at the end of the month I may modify this workout a bit to scale it back. OR I may elect to do it wholesale! We’ll see what happens. Later in the day I have a strength workout at the Row House, which I’m looking forward to as well.
Tuesday: My dad and I will do an easy bike ride together for an hour on Zwift. I’ve picked out the Tempus Fugit route in Watopia for us and have already sent the invitation to him, so it’s as good as done. 🙂
Wednesday: Midweek I’ll do a fartlek run workout for 1:05. To be honest, running is what I’ve missed the most the past couple of weeks! It will be good to get out there and just sprint it out.
Thursday: I’m back on the bike for an hour’s worth of threshold intervals. There’s a slight chance the bike club will schedule a last-minute evening ride (with the sunlight dwindling, the official Thursday night ride has closed down for the year), but if that doesn’t transpire I’ll hit the trainer instead. I’ve also got another workout at Row House on the docket for good measure.
Friday: It’s back in the pool with me to cap off the workweek, with some “Building 75s” on the docket for an hour.
Saturday: Now, it’s this Saturday bike ride that faces the greatest likelihood of not transpiring, as I am leading a tour group on Saturday morning and then am – to be perfectly frank – watching football all afternoon and evening. But if I WERE to ride, it would be 2:30 of Threshold and Hold work.
Sunday: I am really looking forward to the Sunday long run! A 1:10 effort at an easy pace? I’ll take that.
And so goes the week! What will get done? What will end up on the cutting-room floor? We shall see!
